Objectives:  To protect producers and consumers against unfair business practices in the marketing of livestock, meat and poultry; and members of the livestock marketing and meat and poultry industries against unfair, deceptive, discriminatory, and monopolistic practices of competitors.

Preapplication Coordination:  This program is excluded from coverage under E.O. 12372.

Application Procedure:  Complaints may be submitted orally or in writing to the field offices.

Award Procedure:  Not applicable.

Deadlines:  There are no deadlines for filing complaints except that reparation complaints seeking awards of damages must be filed within 90 days after the cause of action occurs.

Range of Approval/Disapproval Time:  Not applicable.

Appeals:  If an award is made and the defendant does not comply, the complainant may file an action in a U.S. District Court or State court within one year from the date of the Secretary's order.
