Objectives:  The Economic Bulletin Board is an on-line computer service and provides access to over 8,000 files containing trade leads, official economic and financial press releases and statistical data prepared by a wide range of Federal government agencies. The data on the EBB also are available on the Internet www.stat-usa.gov.

11.027 PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

The EBB has been operating since 1985 and currently serves subscribers nationwide and abroad. Subscribers enjoy quick access to late-breaking economic and trade news from the Federal Government, and can keep abreast of important release dates and trade events and opportunities. Files are available in text (ASCII) format, and many are available in compressed self-extracting archives to minimize connect time. The EBB supports popular modem and error-correction software and offers access to over 50 simultaneous users.

Obligations:  (Reimbursable) NOTE: The Economics and Statistics Administration/STAT-USA operates a revolving fund for the payment of expenses incurred in the electronic dissemination of data, including the acquisition and public sale of domestic, federally-funded and foreign business, trade, and economic information.

Uses and Use Restrictions:  Information used by Federal, State and local agencies, businesses, industries, educational institutions and the general public. It contains about eight thousand files that are continually updated. In addition, the files can be downloaded to subscribers' personal computers. The EBB is a personal computer-based electronic bulletin board that is accessed via modem. The user must have a computer, modem and communications software to utilize the system.
