Objectives:  To promote physical fitness for Americans of all ages by encouraging the development, implementation and improvement of physical fitness and sports programs. These objectives are accomplished through the provision of professional consultation, technical assistance, publications and public information, program evaluation and development to school systems, government agencies, employee organizations, industrial organizations, recreation and park departments, and others who wish to introduce or to improve physical fitness or sports programs.

93.289 PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

With more than two and a half million individuals participating in PCPFS programs each year, the PCPFS responds to more than 50,000 individual requests for information and assistance. The PCPFS continues to be a catalytic agent for fitness programs launched by the private sector and other government agencies. The third phase marked a multi-media public service campaign on youth fitness through the private sector. It also marked the fourth year for the PCPFS traveling exhibition (to the U.S. Presidential Libraries) entitled, A Flexing of the Nation's Muscle: President's Physical Fitness and Sports in the American Century.

Uses and Use Restrictions:  The Council does not provide grant or loan funds. Professional consultation and technical assistance in the design, development and implementation of programs designed to expand physical activity, fitness, exercise, and sports participation opportunities are available. The limitations are those imposed by the Council's limited resources. Information material includes pamphlets and program publications. Publications for youth, adults, and seniors, and physical fitness activities are available from the Council and/or the Government Printing Office.
